Chhath Puja is widely celebrated in North India and other countries like Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This festival honors nature and includes rituals for worshiping the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. People worship both the forms of the Sun God that is the ‘rising sun’ and the ‘setting sun’. “Devotees start gathering from early in the morning and late in the evening to worship the setting sun. In this festival, women observe fast and offer arghya to Sun God. Chhath Puja continue for four days, starting with Nahai Khai and Kharna.Then Arghya is offered to the setting and rising Sun God. In this, fasting women worship Sun God by submerging themselves waist deep in the river and offering Arghya to him. In this, a waterless fast is observed for 36 hours, which is considered very difficult. According to Hindu mythological beliefs, by worshipping Chhathi Maiya, the fasting person gets the blessings of health, happiness, prosperity, and child happiness. Chhath Puja is a popular festival which is a symbol of faith, devotion and gratitude towards nature. Chhath Puja is dedicated to Sun God(Bhaskar Bhagwan) and Chhathi Maiya(Usha and Pratyusha). Traditionally, this festival is celebrated twice a year, once in the summers and the second time during the winters.
